Camellia

There are so many flowers in the world that I could write about, but this flower had to be it. The reason I chose this flower is because I thought it was so beautiful. Camellia, that is the name of the flower, the Camellia is also called by its Latin name,Camellia japonica Covena.

The Camellia is an evergreen, mostly a bush or a tree. This plant grows leathery leaves, and about 80 wax-like flowers. Fall, Winter, and Spring, those are the seasons that the flowers bloom in. Camellia flowers come in different colors, such as:White,Pink, and Red,Yellow flowers only found on the Camellia chrysantha. The plants grow up to 20 meters tall, and 17 cm long.

Different kinds of Camellia plants are used for cooking oils and tea. The oil seeds from the Camellia oleifera plant, and many others, are used for tea and for cooking oil. Little-known outside of east Asia,Cooking oil is most important to hundreds of millions of people, mostly in southern China.

Many species of Camellia plants are well-adapted to acidic soils, most species don't grow well in chalky or calcium rich soils. Some species of Camellia require lots of water, from natural rainfall, or irrigation, these kinds of plants do not tolerate droughts. Some of the more unusual species- typically species karst soils in Vietnam can't grow with lots of water.

I'm happy I wrote about this flower because of all the things I learned. You learn something new every day, things you learn from flowers are just some of the many things to learn. I hope to learn as much information in my next article, as I did in this one.
